ISA Judging Course (Level 1)

Swiss Surfing delivers the International Surfing Association (ISA) “Judging and Officiating Course”, which is a first step in becoming a professional surfing Judge and Official. The International Judging and Officiating course enables successful course participants the opportunity to work as a judge at events both in Switzerland and internationally. The course will be facilitated by SSA Head Judge and ISA international judge Manuel Mendoza. The course will be held in English.

THE COURSE

The course is interactive and includes presentations, videos, exercises, and discussions.

• Duties of a judge
• Interference rules
• General judging information

On the second day, participants will practice the newly acquired knowledge at the Urbansurf wave.

The course is interactive and includes presentations, video clips, exercises and discussions, as well as a practical part. An active participation of the participants is required and to stimulate discussion during the course, personal ideas or opinions of participants should be expressed.

FOR WHOM IS THIS COURSE

The course is not only intended for aspiring judges, but also for competitors, parents, and sports journalists who want to learn more about maneuver scoring. Participants should have a solid understanding of surfing.

REQUIREMENTS

Participants must have a decent knowledge of surfing prior to attending the course. To obtain this accreditation an individual must adhere to the following requirements:

1. E-Learning must be started 14 days before the course begins
2. Full attendance at the course
3. Successful completion of practical exam
4. Completed workbook handed to the presenter at the end of the course
5. Completed judging registration form
6. Sign the Officials code of Ethics form
7. Understanding of the steps to achieve level 2 & 3 judging qualifications
