The Swiss Surfing Association (SSA) delivers the International Surfing Association (ISA) “Judging and Officiating Course”, which is a first step in becoming a professional surfing Judge and Official. The International Judging and Officiating course enables successful course participants the opportunity to work as a judge at events both in Switzerland and internationally. The course will be facilitated by SSA Head Judge and ISA international judge Manuel Mendoza. The course will be held in English.
The course involves a one-day intensive classroom learning experience where participants are taken through all aspects of the ISA judging criteria including:
– Manoeuvers
– Competition rules
– Duties of a judge
– Interference rules
– General judging information
At the end of the course, participants will have the possibility to exercise their newly acquired skills at Oana.
The course is interactive and includes presentations, video clips, exercises and discussions, as well as a practical part. An active participation of the participants is required and to stimulate discussion during the course, personal ideas or opinions of participants should be expressed.

This course is not just for those wishing to officiate at SSA sanctioned events but is also very valuable for competitors and their parents who wish to find out what the judges look for when scoring waves.
Participants must have a decent knowledge of surfing prior to attending the course. To obtain this accreditation an individual must adhere to the following requirements:
– Full attendance at the course
– Successful completion of practical exam
– Completed workbook handed to the presenter at the end of the course
– Completed judging registration form
– Sign the Officials code of Ethics form
– Understanding of the steps to achieve level 2 & 3 judging qualifications
